Osteoporosis Prevention Launch by Two Mutual

M
utual General (MG) and National Mutual Territory (MNT) are launching a osteoporosis prevention among their members aged over 60 years in the regions of Aquitaine and Poitou-Charentes, promoting screening for the disease ( bone densitometry).

The two mutual "currently sign agreements with radiologists and rheumatologists in the region who are committed to respect a protocol rigorous quality: reliability of equipment and practice of third-party payer," said a joint statement of the MG, mutual Personal La Poste and France Telecom, and the MNT, the mutual territorial public service.

A pilot project has already been conducted in 2002 and 2003 by MG and MNT in Rhone-Alpes where members of more than 60 years were informed by mail, says the press release stating that 10% of these women have in effect past the exam.

In Aquitaine and Poitou-Charentes, members should soon receive the first e-information.

Osteoporosis screening is currently not reimbursed by Social Security. According to the release, only early detection, supported in part by two mutual, helps prevent the appearance of this pathology.

Osteoporosis is a pathological depletion of bone tissue, leading to increased bone fragility and an increased risk of fracture. It is one of the main diseases associated with aging, particularly concerning women from menopause: almost one in two women over 50 years presents a risk of osteoporotic fractures.
