ne in two women past age 50 will be the victim of an osteoporotic fracture.The most dramatic is of course one of the hip, with its burden of pain and disability. Among the women admitted to hospital for such a fracture, keep half a disability and 20% die within a year!
The mortality rate of hip fracture is comparable to that of stroke. Osteoporosis is causing a greater number of days of hospitalization as heart attack or stroke or cancer.
Osteoporosis causes spending as important as for example congestive heart failure.
It is therefore a very serious public health problem as has been widely shown in conjunction with the Congress of the EULAR (European League Against Rheumatism) in Lisbon.

There is an excellent way to diagnose osteoporosis before this divide: osteodensitometrie. A tool under-utilized in most countries and is not supported in many countries, including France.
It is unclear that health officials do not remedy such a situation, and do not, given its seriousness, as much consideration to osteoporosis they attach to other diseases.
