f you answered yes to any of these osteoporosis risk questions, you are more likely to be suffering from osteoporosis.Consult a doctor and to measure your bone density.
1. Do you have a family history of osteoporosis?
2. Have you had an oophorectomy?
3. Have you been menopause before age 50?
4. Have you ever suffered from anorexia or bulimia?
5. Have you taken any medicines containing corticosteroids for long periods?
6. Do you smoke?
Solutions
- Canada's Food Guide recommends at least three servings of dairy products per day. To prevent osteoporosis, you need 1 000 mg of calcium per day or four servings of dairy products. The milk, light yogurt, spinach and canned fish remain excellent choices.
- Stop smoking.
- Give activities such as walking, jogging, hiking, dance, step and badminton. The frequency: at least three sessions of 20 minutes per week.
Note: These tests are standard in the health community and are given to assess the physical condition in most sports centres and specialized clinics.
If you put several tests in higher age-groups to yours, Sylvain Guimond, BioTonix (assessment centre of the posture and physical condition), recommends to go with a lot of precautions to start and grow effort very gradually. It also advises you to consult your doctor for a medical check-up.
